How to go about selling Diamond Earrings??

    Hey all,

I have a pair of beautiful diamond earring I would like to have valued and then sell.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to go about doing that?
Do I go to one of those chinese pawn shops? (they look a bit dodgy...?)
Or do I go to a jewlery shop and ask them? Do they do that? Will they buy the earrings off me?
I know they are very precious and I do not want to get ripped off so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

    Thanks,

    S

If brought in HK, going back to the shop you brought them at might give you the best price...

If brought elsewhere, figure out how much(little) you are willing to let it go at, and try to haggle up to that minimum. 'Sentimental value' had no monetary value in pawnshops and other 2nd hand shops. Just do not accept the 1st/2nd or 3rd offer that the guy says and shop around in different areas over HK before you hand over your valuables. Sometimes the best value is gained in the most unlikely places.

    Thanks,

I would go back to the shop where they were bought, however, they were given to me as a gift and the jewler is a family friend and I dont want the person who gave them to me to find out...

im know they were roughly bought for about 30k so that would be the price i would be looking for.

do you have any jewellry shops/pawn shops you can recommend in hong kong?

    Thanks,
    S

You'll get the best price if you can prove that they aren't conflict diamonds.

Don't go to the local pawn shops or the local jewellery shops, you'll get ripped off for sure.
The proper route would be through a specialist like De Beers in the Landmark. They have a proper diamond brokerage service.

hi guys,im a gemmologist by proffesion.maybe i can help you in evaluevating your piece.Firstly i need some basic information.

Whats the size of your solitaire?
What colour and clarity it is,
Also i need to know ,when you bought it did it come with a certificate like gia,igi or hrd? What is the reason for you to sell. For best pricing ,i need to inspect your stone for any cleavage, feathers, fissures or graining.

Dont go to the pawnshops or the local jewellery shops, they would really rip you off, they will buy at a very low price and the sell it to another customer at higher price.Pm me if you need more info.
    Cheers!

    Hey,

ok I called DeBeers to make an appointment to see if they would look at my earrings. The lady on the phone said they only sell and dont look at other peoples stuff...
How do I get hold of the brokerage service mentioned?
    Thanks
