    Voluntary work

    Hey
My boyfriend is wanting to do some voluntary work - does anyone know of any usual websites or where to start looking? What is available in HK?
    Thanks

    Sazzy,

I'm myself doing an internship in HK, but so bored that I've been contacting NGO's in the conservation/development/environmental protection field, which are my main fields of interest.

Until now, only one (WWF) has dared to answer my request to work as a volonteer, even though I'm undergraduate in environmental sciences. It seems that you have to push quite hard to get something, if you don't speak chinese (does your boyfriend speak cantonese, mandarin?).

Here are still some NGO's you can contact. They all claim they welcome volonteers, but I'm still waiting for answers...

    WWF Hing Kong:

    The Conservancy Association: http://www.conservancy.org.hk/aboutCA/mainE.htm

    Green Council:

    Friends of The Earth:

    Business Environment Council

    Green Peace China :

    Green Power :

Hong Kong Bird Watching Society :

But don't be desperate, there is always a way to help as a volunteer, especially if you are motivated and have time to spend. If I get to find something, I'll let you know.

    Good luck !

Don't you need a work visa for voluntary work too?

Q12: What is Hong Kong's new policy on dependants performing voluntary work?

    A12:

Dependants have to apply for permission to work whether paid or unpaid. Applications relating to voluntary work in recognized charitable organizations will be considered favourably on a case by case basis.
