    Unhappy Wedding dress code

    Hi,

I'm having trouble with wording dress code on invitation for my wedding reception[dinner].

I would like people to dress up a little bit, not too formal like black tie,
but maybe jacket and tie[or at least jacket] for gentlemen
and dress or anything that suits the gents' dress code for ladies.

    If you have been to a typical HK wedding I think you know how HK people dress;
a lot of them are very casual[i.e. in jeans, sneakers, etc.].
And some westerners have picked this custom up or something
and they can be quite casual at a wedding reception, too.

Now, I know from my experience the word "smart casual" does not really do the work for these people,
they still show up very casual.
Should I put it very straight like "Jacket and Tie/Dress" or is there a nicer and friendlier word?
[my guests will mostly be westerners and small number of HKgnese]

We received an invitation recently and it said "Black Tie Invited".
How about putting Dress Code: Semi Formal

I like cocktail wear as a description. Perhaps with one of those little pictures of people in posh frocks drinking etc.....

Or you could try the negative "No Jeans"

semi-formal sounds good but you have to consider those "HKgnese" who are in jeans and sneakers might not understand what semi-formal is. The other side of the argument is that fancy jeans and designer t-shirts are more a 21st century semi-formal.

This is what came to my head you mentioned jacket and tie!!!

    sorry karl

I hope those jeans&sneaker people understand what it means...
