    Furniture Disposal and Donation

I know there have been some previous threads on this, but some of them are a little old now, so I thought I'd seek some current info.

We are moving to a new apartment and have decided to get rid of the items we keep carting from country to country but don't need.

Some of the items are nearly new and suitable for donation (firdge/freezer, washer, dryer etc.). I don't want to sell, just donate, and have contacted Crossroads.... but just waiting for their reply. (I'm happy to pay a truck to deliver them).

We also have some other items, good condition, but not on the Crossroads donation list, (largebook shelves, queen bed etc ), so we just want disposed of. Also a couple of broken/old items to get rid of.

Can anyone suggest a service that might do either the transport to Crossroads and / or the disposal of the other items?

I have seen lots of info on 'man with a van' type stuff, but the impression I get is that they just transport, not dispose? I want to avoid paying a fortune in disposal costs too.

    Thanks for your help

find out where is the nearest refuse collection center to your building, then get a man with a van, load the stuff up and pay the dude another $100 to take it to the collection center and dump it. Refuse collection centers accept furniture, electrical goods without charge.

Thanks! Had no idea these places existed.

Also, if the stuff is any good, it'd probably get snapped up and recycled anyway.

Put it up on the classifieds and it will get snapped up... Lots of expats looking for stuff too.

You could also give the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) a call on 2507 3364. They will ask you were you live and tell you the nearest Refuse Collection Point (RCP).

Can anyone recommend a "man with a van"? English speaking is not essential although would be a bonus.
