Yup cerberus, 10 mths is pretty insane.
When my husband spoke to the owner (around Aug.1) he was quite apologetic & frustrated himself since the renov. was taking longer than expected. Said he expected to be moved in by Aug 8th.

As of last night they have'nt even installed the front door...much less the flooring. Either the owner was'nt being honest, or it's just taking them forever.

Oh and I did'nt even mention the kicker...
We have a small private patio which lies directly below the renovation. We've been unable to use it for 4 mths due to the dirt, debris & concrete chunks raining down from the scaffolding onto the patio & our teak furniture. Then when they removed the scaffolding last wkend, they came onto our private property without permission & then proceeded to use our teak table to scoot the bamboo polls across it...which in turn scratched it up!
End result...My husband & the man in charge of the renovation are meeting this wkend for an inspection of our damages.

sue them for everything they got. did you call the cops at any point? sometimes it's tempting to go it alone and be civil, i know, but here's an example of barbaric behavior that must be exposed and punished. don't be nice to these savages! on top of the noise alone, we have tresspassing, negligence and damages...what are you waiting for?

Yes, the police came out immediately after the table was damaged, and took a report of the incident.
    We also took pictures.
The police have been out here on at least 7 occasions within the last 3 wks (because of working past 7pm/here on Sun./or the table incident) The police always come out when called, but instead of giving the workers/supervisor some sort of citation at some point, they just continue giving warnings...like this is going to help.

did you enquire as to why no citations were issued? you can also try the crime reporting/prevention offices, they're listed at the main police force site, or just go to your local station. it's strange that after seven calls they can't take any action!

It's not just the construction noise! I would like to bodily remove cab drivers from their cabs and bludgeon them to death when the stupid twits lay on their horns for 30-60 seconds at all hours of the day. I live on a major street and the idiots keep waking me up in the middle of the night.

indeed another major problem, i hear ya. honking is a pain in the ass when you're next to a major street. overall i think we can agree HK is hell when it comes to noise, residents here just don't give a damn about their fellow person. it's the same with neighbors who insist on doing everything in the hallway (loud conversations, fixing their bikes..) and those mysterious banging/dragging noises you get at every local building here. i must say on the tranquility front this city is a HUGE disappointment. now i understand why people choose to live on lamma etc.

The police are worthless...sure they show up & make them stop working, but when we asked about a citation after multiple calls, the usual response is something like..."they will stop working now, and if they come back just call us". They never give a straight answer.
    I give up <sigh>

you can try pushing the complaints up a notch, as in getting the cop's name/number then reporting it to the station. if that fails, go to the next level. at least here there's a proper system for docking complaints, and we need to use it and appreciate it. believe you me, i've lived in parts where even complaining wasn't possible.

    good news

well here's something that seems to have worked. my husband gave the management a solid talking to and basically told them that under our contract we are entitled to peace except for the occasional disturbance and if they don't stop the constant renovations we are going to start discounting our rent. voila! now they've agreed they can only make the loud drilling type noises twice a week and they call us to ask which days are best for us. let's see how long it lasts!

What really gets me is the taxi drivers who hold the horn, whilst sitting in peak hour stopped traffic! What do they think is going to happen??? it's not like people choose to not move or anything. Back in Oz, if you tried that on you'ld end up with a 'fist on teeth'!
