no, not everyone gets such large trees. i think there would be a good market for cheaper, smaller trees. flats here are very small and to tell the truth, we NEVER had a real tree until we had kids.

hmmm, interesting... its been a long time since I visited HK for any extended period- are there neighborhoods with more families and ones with more single people like here in Seattle?
And I'm also curious to know how early people start to pre-order? do you do it online or at a location in person?
again thanks SO much! you have given us a lot to think about...
usually you need to pre-order in person and pay up front.
i think that the best places for families would be:
mid-levels
southside
pok fu lam
discovery bay
tung chung
gold coast
sai kung
kowloon tong
clear water bay
the peak
jardine's lookout
happy valley
Those would be the best places for expat families, but surely that is a tiny fraction of the Xmas tree market here? I'd be surprised if the total market for Xmas trees to expats exceeds a couple of thousand given that most single expats won't bother, many families go home/away for Xmas and so on.

i know very few chinese that buy real trees. in all my years of private teaching and going into homes, i can only think of maybe 5 students that had a real tree. many didn't even have a fake one...
