"Where have you put the keys?"

"In the fridge" (now why didn't I think of looking in there?)

    It's all down to experience

I do not care about the photos, as long as my son does not mind (and he is too young, 17 months, to care). But I was in shock and did not do anything.
Again, I felt horrible after it.
But next time I will know better, and being rude to those people with no manners won't be a problem for me.
I used to feel the same - it happened a few times with my daughter before I worked out how I wanted to handle these situations. Even when they are really young they will take their lead from you, so good luck next time!

after brushing his teeth last night, i asked my son to rinse his toothbrush and put it away... when i turned around, he was trying to clean the inside of the drain with it.... YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

needless to say, he got a new toothbrush today!

Yup especially those random high pitched screams in the middle of a shopping mall which seems to amplify the noise ten fold.

    (1) Mh-MOE YEE-see... (2) Mh-GOI nay, mh-MOE MAW aw SAI-LOW-gor...

    (1) Literally: No bad meaning; or in Eng speak: "No offense (but...)

[or "kid/kiddie" = SAI-MUN-jai; OR local, cute colloquial: SIU PUN-yau, literally "little friend"]

If they stare blankly back at you - surprised - (and you give a toss) make up a quick excuse:

    Kui mh-JUN-yee ga
    [end with falling tone]

    He/she doesn't like it.

But, agree, the temptation to pat little ones' head/hair is often too... (that goes for furry four-leggers, too ) Tho, without permission, picking up other folks' babes = a NO-NO.
Thanks for the lingo Emmie - appreciated.

Great discussion it is good to read all the posts.

In my experience it is all about the person. If they make eye contact with me and talk to my son, then I have less issue (providing they look like they washed this side of Sunday) than if they completely ignore me, and for that matter my son, and just touch him as if he is some kind of talisman.

Maybe the false eye in the middle of his forehead would be a good idea, and would make for a good game I am sure. If I get a manufacturer maybe bumps to babes or ShopinHK would carry it..

If anyone I don't know tries to pick up my son for a photo or any other reason, they had better be prepared for the wrath of Thor.

I'll leave this thread to head down whatever tangent it may find next.

    Meerkat

Put a facemask on him when you're out and they won't touch him then
