    IDD rate change Bummer !!!!

What's with the changes in the IDD rates. Only recently I posted a response to someone asking about IDD rates and I said I had a pretty good deal with IDD1507 at 8cts per min to the UK.

I just saw my bill and read the fine print which showed that the rate from 1st Aug has gone up to 48cts per min to the UK !

So what are the best deals going around now for calls to the UK ?

Am I the only one getting caught in this trap of changing rates ?

PCCW is either 0.19 or 0.17 per minute to the U.K. with their IDD 0060 service. I think you need to have a landline with them.

    thanks guys.

looks like 1582 is the cheapest but I could not get through to someone who could speak to me in English !

Discobay; I tried the PCCW website and the rate I saw was 38cts per min.

Found it! I receive flyers in the post every now and then from PCCW. This one advertises HKD 0.17 per minute anytime of the day to Australia, U.K., Canada and U.S.A. land lines and is valid from August 10 to December 31.

    hei Discobay well done !

Does the leaflet give you any hint on how to open the account. I do have a PCCW fixed line but have not received anything in the post from the them.

Give me a few hints on how to ask them for that rate !

    cheers

Ring 10060. I don't know if this is a particularly "special rate just for you Mr Smith" but you could hint at the other rates you've been offered and add a little imagination...

    I've posted this often before...

Get a PCCW landline. Sign up for 0060 (get offered the standard rates). Sign up for HGC 0080 or similar. Make a few calls using 0080 on your PCCW line. Wait for the 0060 special offer leaflet to arrive.

    1507

    Hi,

I suscribed to 1507 a couple of weeks ago also, but when I suscribed they made it clear that the 0.08 HK$ / min deal was for around 8 weeks after I start using the service, and gave me the exact ending date for the promotion, and also sent a letter with the rates after the end of this promotion.
If they didn't tell you that then you should try to find out why.
    Cheers

    Kris

If you have a PC at home with internet access (and have speakers/headset and a microphone) you might want to check out www.skype.com - this nifty piece of software allows you to make very cheap calls to landlines/mobiles here and abroad and also if the person you want to speak to also has a PC you can chat using the internet for free!!
