Urgently need to replace helper

Our helper has to leave due to ill health and we need someone quickly who is experienced and trustworthy as we will be away a lot this summer but our little dog will still be here.
What are the regulations currently?? - it's ages since I had to go through employing someone as our present helper has been with us for years. As I understand it, someone whose contract has finished as the employer is moving out of HK, or whose contract has come to the natural end and they don't want to stay, would be elegible to take up new employment without having to return to their native country first.

Put an ad up in Taste Stanley. There are so many helpers looking for jobs right now you should be able to get one who is already southside and can provide good references. In our building alone there are 60 families moving out (and 60 in) over the next month or so.

I'll see if anyone I know has a helper to recommend. We're just a few minutes away from you.

Thanks aussiegal, it would be helpful if you know of anyone -- personal recommendations from the previous employer are usually the best way I've found after 21 years in Asia. Particularly helpful as I'm in the UK just now and only returning on Sunday.
We live in a small low-rise so I never get to know many in my area.

Thanks Carang. We have friends who love taking our little dog when we're away, but it's also that I need help also to move flat in the 2nd week of July! My husband's travelling then, and my kids are all working in the UK or finishing classes, so I may have to even see if there's such a thing as a temp agency for a month or so. But I REALLY appreciate the kind offer.
