Best time of the year around from sep-dec. Blue skies and not too hot during this time, but gets cooler around jan/febuary.

how long will you be staying shikha singh?

if you will be staying till nov-dec then bring your heavy winter clothes but if it's only for few weeks after 11/09 then warm clothes will do like cardigans, light jumpers and denim jackets...if it gets too cold then you can always shop here in hk..

Heavy winter clothes in HK??? I think not. Maybe there's a couple of weeks in January or February where you might need a sweater.

I did the same. I thought that HK would never get too cold, but last Feb was freezing. Someone told me that the year before was the same?

    Yo Shikha

In September the weather will change on the 22nd, when the locals begin to wear the slightly heavier cardigans.

You should be fine with summer weight for both formal/informal.

You can check out this site for climate here
    http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/climat/climato.htm

One thing to avoid is being a 'blue indian' here
This is when you see a desi in a bush shirt with his lips icy blue walking around on a chilly October day.
not to be confused with this

Last February wasn't even close to freezing. There has never been frost in HK except on the very top of Tai Mo Shan and other 3000' peaks.

MAybe fan heaters are needed for a few days, but if you are outside and moving then winter clothing (in the Northern European sense) is really not necessary,

PDLM, freezing wasn't meant to be taken literally! I think its good to tell someone coming to HK for the first time that it can get pretty cold around then, as most people don't expect ANY cold weather here at all. It doesn't just take frost to make things cold, the wind can do the job.
