    Cell Phones/Smart Phones

Going to be spending two weeks in HK/Shanghai/Beijing (mostly HK). Live in NY but have old UK cell phone w/SIM card slot. Will this work in China if I get the card? Where can I purchase this?

Also, renting an international blackberry, has anyone done this? Don't need the email feature, but am very keen on having google maps with GPS. Any alternatives to renting a blackberry but keeping a gps?

    Many thanks.

Only will work if the mobile is unblocked. You'll need to purchase a 'Pay as you go' Sim card then you get here.

'Smartone Vodafone' is a good option/reception. HKD68 for the sim including local number and the full amount is credited on the sim. There are stores everywhere.

If you are not spending a lot of time in Shanghai/Beijing etc.. Then suggest you can roam using the HK Smartone card. If you are planning on making/receiving calls the you can buy a China 'pay as you go' sim. Mobile network 'China mobile' is adequate but cannot recall the prices.

    Have a great time! Ken

I am only spending weekends in Mainland and will be with my friend, so I think the roaming is a smart idea. So if I bring my UK phone to HK and get an HK simcard, it will work in Mainland (with roaming)?

    Thanks!!

Yes it will. At a price.
