    Nice.. TWISM.. You Arse!

Maybe he's here with work and needs to stay here for that reason, or maybe he just wants to stay here.. he can still get homesick!

OP - Homesickness is never nice, but lots of people get it so don't think you're alone. My Fiance gets it quite badly even though she loves Hong Kong. She finds the best thing to do is get out there and socialise or do things that keep your mind busy.

Its never easy... just tuff it out and when you get out the other end you'll be glad you stayed

? The bloke or shelia said he or she was homesick so I advised a trip home. Meant periodic R and R from HK. You're mean calling people names based on your interpretation of their or my post. Chill!

Sometimes I get homesick, this happens even after many years in HK and having a 'new life' here. I know exactly what you mean. My 1st year was the most difficult and didn't know many people with similar backgrounds.

Recently I heard of a barbeque happening in good mate's backyard. That's in a long line of things that I've 'missed' over the years.

When I'm desperate enough, I will buy a ticket and go.

In the meanwhile, just go out and find a new network of friends. Recreate that little bit of home with other Canadians in a coffee shop/bar/pub/club/movies or restaurant.

awww.. i still feel homesick even after years of staying here. the key is keeping yourself busy. occupy yourself with stuff and yeah, meet new people. distract yourself, engage in activities. uhm, wait, i should be telling myself all these. hahaha

Yah, agree with most posters on here, it will take roughly 6-12 months. For me, I got my home fix every year or so with a week to fortnight annual trip. But then as you settle into a routine, meet new people, then before you know it, Hong Kong becomes your home.

For me now, I have lost contacts with all but a few close friends in the UK, and that contact is like limited to Facebook

You just need to get in with the local CBCs here, loads of them hang out in the karaoke bars in CWB. I suggest you FB your fellow maples back home and see if there is anyone in Hong Kong they know that you can hang around with. Then once you get into that scene, you get pure "playtime" and you will think how boring it is back home.

It's like me now, I haven't been home like in 3 years and don't particularly want to. It's like everything closes after working hours, and then you got the yob culture in the UK, and because I smoke, nowhere to do that. Here, there are loads of things to do, places like Thailand and Japan are like 3-6 hours away, you have really good food and massages in Shenzhen, and of course I am ...well, let's just say enjoying my social life in CWB and LKF

    I know how you feel.

I have been here 2 months now, still feel isolated at times, as I don't know that many people here.

I have to decide by December whether to stay here permanently, or return to the UK. Big choice to make in the near future.

Then make an effort to go to the geo social events etc, Thats one of the ways to expand your social network.

Yup keep an eye out as they're usually posted up if anythings planned.
This site was a lifesaver when I first moved out here last year as I knew some people already but they weren't really into the lkf scene etc but I ended up meeting a whole bunch of great people.

You could just post your own in the 'meet and greet' section. I'm alway up to meet interesting new people. Preferable on the Kowloon side!

Theatre/movies/coffee/resturant or pub are all good excuses to meet new people.
