metal cage for extraction fan - burglars

If you have an extractor fan set into the window in your bathroom, apparently burglars can get in quite easily by pushing the fan through and then opening the window.

I am looking for those metal cages that you affix to the outside wall over your fan so that they can't be pushed through.

Does anyone have these? Know where I can get these? I have run out of leads...

Could you expand on this a bit? Why is this any more likely than someone simply breaking the glass to the same effect?

It isn't more likely, just that I have got everything else covered off.

A couple of weeks ago I woke in the early hours to find someone trying to break into my house and I have hardly slept since. I now have motion and light sensors on the balconies, alarms on the doors, sensors on any vulnerable windows, but nothing yet to stop entry via the bathrooms which people tell me is common (including the police). I am putting bars on the bathroom window and I want protection for the fan too.

A lot of protection but worth the peace of mind.

Have you tried a metalwork shop? They could be able knock you up something.

Fair enough. As Claire says, there must be a little metalwork shop in Sai Kung that could do this. You'll probably need to get it made to measure. But don't go too over the top - remember that (unless you have something very specific and valuable to steal) your objective is simply to make your house look hard enough to get into that the burglar will simply move on to the next one that looks easier.

We have the same problem in the Philippines, so we put up all sorts of devices (cameras, sensors, etc) but in fact they are mostly just dummies with little red lights on, and even the ones that aren't haven't been connected to anything. They seem to have served their purpose.

Ah, but do you want to run the risk that it's a double bluff to nail the burglars and that in fact not only is everything wired up, but it's actually connected to the electrified fence and the electronic shotguns positioned at key points.

Oh, and there's nothing much worth stealing there anyway. My cash is safely invested elsewhere.

where i live, all my windows have metal bars welded into it so even if it was open, they would have to saw through the metal to get in. if there is a fire in my house, i am screwed .
