    Old Hong Kong

I just discovered this site with all sorts of fascinating snippets of Hong Kong history. Highly recommended if you're into that sort of thing.

Nice one!! Will be checking this out over the coffee break. Especially the photos. My father would be interested too as he arrived in 1969.

It used to be called Batgung. It's a great site but be warned there is so much interesting content it can take hours of your time!

batgung.com is still around, but the history side branched off and became gwulo.com.

You can read a bit more about it here: URBANPHOTO: Cities / People / Place Old Hong Kong Lives Online

Do a search on youtube for "Michael Rogge", you'll find about 80 videos shot by an Dutch expat 50 some years ago, the quality of the video is excellent.

When I see old photos, it always strikes me how much damage the car has done to urban life. Wide, open streets without railings, central dividers, signs and markings. Clean, clear air and I bet it was a lot quieter. How much nicer!
