been in HK for over 10 years now... four and a half of which have been in DB...can't say that i find DB that inconvenient... 10 minutes to sunny bay MTR station by bus... that takes you to kowloon etc....25 minutes to central by ferry...on the ferry you are guaranteed a seat(not so on the MTR)...

all in all, i'd much rather live in DB than Tung Chung...

that said, we are considering moving next year to either south lantau or back to sai kung...

If you don't have a high demand of a nice neighbourhood and scenic view, you may consider living in Kowloon. You can easily find an apartment with 3 bedrooms around $10000 or less. You may consider Ma Tau Wai (To Kwa Wan) which has lower rents except several new expensive buildings of which the rent is comparable to Kowloon Tong. Ma Tau Wai is within walking distance to Kowloon Tong and Ho Man Tin, which offers lots of choices of schools. The fresh food market in Ma Tau Wai is also cheaper than markets in other areas. Kung Lok Rd on the up hill of Kwun Tong is another choice, it has an environment like Kowloon Tong and a bike park for children but the rent is lower. Living in the city saves thousands of dollars in transport, and you can put that money on rent and education.
