i have been pulled over multiple times for a partially obscurred license plate. could have been that. even got ticketed once for it $350. in my case my exhausts blackens part of the plate over time and i don't often wash my bike... unbelievable really.

i have also been given a ticket for doing 6kph over the limit, caught by a radar trap / camera.

in one year I washed maybe twice!

    6 KPH over!

    is it like a 10% tolerance? 55 in a 50 - 77 in 70?

when u get caught speeding, there is a 3-5kmh deduction, not sure if its 3 or 5.

Anyways heres the points deduction system FYI

you are right wtb it is 5kph. they do this so there are no questions as to the accuracy of the radar.
they also no longer allow you to contest the ticket if there are other moving objects in the photo as they used to. they say " we use triangulation so there is no chance that another moving object in the photo could affect the radar!"

so i got a ticket for 1kph over!

by the way, if anyone wants to meet up for a quick ride out to NT and get some lunch on any weekend let me know... i tend to go to Hebe and grab something at Hebe 101.

the red light cameras only just do the red light check, not velocity

Thanks and Happy NY to you all too -

drive fast and safe! safe on a motorbike isnt necessarily slow in my opinion.....

I think I saw a mobile unit the other day? they had set up under a bridge by kai tak where the road forks into prince edward and argyle street..

    should that road be a 50 zone ? it's a 3 lane highway!!

anyways there's no way I was going to 50 down there with most cars hooning by at 70...

Best place to issue tickets, once got caught coming off one of these highways, speedlimit was 70, coming down was 50, i got caught slowing down at 60 something. The police guy hiding behind some sign, worst of all i was following a taxi who should have known better with their regular updates, he got stopped as well.

    Detector = Legal / Jammer = Illegal.

Also when they have the hand gun radar, it only detects if they press it on, by that time if it the detector beeps, its too late to slow down.

Does anyone know what radar band they use here? X, K, Ka, or laser?
That is good tactics. The radar detector that i have detects the bands stated by you, i think the police you laser, the speed cameras use X or K, My instruction manual is in Chinese, still haven't figured it out yet.

    Speed camera technology

I got snapped driving into Sai Kung on the last week going down hiram's hwy and the radar detector didn't go off at all. I use the Escort Solo S2 which picks up the radar bands. Is there a new frequency used in HK or is there non-radar speed camera technology used? Or is my radar detector broken?
