    Hospital Fee

I have a 1 month-old child born in Queen Mary Hospital. Our child has only one kidney and because of this she will go some medical procedures to confirm that her kidney will work as normal. But recently on Renal Analysis the hospital require as to deposit of 40,000HKD for the said test and the reason is the baby is not a permanent Resident("NOT ESTABLISHED"). Because of this deposit thing, we CANCEL the said test and decided to bring the baby to our country and have that test in there. BTW, me working using Employment Visa and I'm already in second year and my wife is also working in a lending company for over 6 years now.

    the question is.

Is the said payment legal or mandated by HK government?

Please help us enlighten on this issue.

My understanding is that it is not required to be a Permanent Resident in order to be eligible for the "public" health charges ($100 per visit or thereabouts), but that it is required to be a resident.

Have you registered your child with Immigration as per the process here? http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/bdmreg_1.htm

fxdll : I would contact the hospital administrative staff. IF you are a ID card holder and the child has been registered as your dependant (i.e. birth cert etc have been processed), it does not seem logical that you have to put down that sort of deposit.

Call them or pay them a visit.
