    Wink HK$30,000 Budget

I'm a 29 year old BBC and am thinking about moving to HK in the next couple of months. However I think my trip is more likely to end up being an extended holiday as my chances of finding work are slim to none as I have no degree and don't speak Cantonese! Can anyone roughly estimate how long I might be able last in HK with a budget of HK$30,000 in the event that I don't manage to find any work? I would be keeping the whole trip very inexpensive! I also have friends and family I could probably stay with but think I might need to find my own place at some point as don't want to out-stay my welcome!

Living at "survival level" with accommodation provided, probably about a year. Living at the level of many 29 year old expats here, about 6 weeks.

Where between those two depends entirely on how you want to live. Accommodation (even of a cheap room) is going to cost $3,000 / month at the very least.

I guess I'd be happy with even 6 weeks, but not sure I'd have a job to come back to in Edinburgh!! Thanks for your reply.

without cantonese you can survive. But without a degree is what's going to kill you in the job market. Unless you have a mammoth of "relevant" work experience in the field you want to get into.

Otherwise.. a lot of companies don't even read your CV if your qualification doesn't contain a degree.

However.. come along and experience. treat it as a mini holiday, you never know what will happen. And anything can happen in HK!!!
