Thumbs down pitiful performance: HK Rugby Sevens tickets via HK Ticketing

I thought that HK Ticketing did a pitiful job yesterday with the HK Rugby Sevens ticket sales...I, along with quite a few acquaintances, was never able to get past the bogged down servers or the phone sales lines. (I'm assuming that they had more than one line...maybe not!)

I did reach the order page on 7 occasions over a 5 hour period, but was never able to submit the order due to bogged down servers.

I finally reached the telephone sales line at 3pm only to find out that the tix had sold out!

well, it is the free party across the road for me again this year!

Given the relatively small space available after allocations go to the rugby clubs and sponsors perhaps they ought to move to a lottery system using ID cards for reference. It might make life a lot harder for the scalpers as well.

    Thoughts?

I like the flexibility of just being able to pick them up from friends or touts before the game. It seems fine to me - it's only stressful for people who don't understand how it works.

It could be stressful for people who are travelling from abroad (e.g. the mainland) and have paid exhorbitant rates for hotels etc.

True, but the HK Ticketing exercise is only for HK Residents.

Exactly! Such people will therefore be more reliant on alternative sources of tickets.

Yes- and not only for Rugby Sevens , but also for perfoming arts, etc., if HK Ticketing is handling the online sales.

I'll score a ticket for Sunday's matches, but I feel that a small (unnoticed and ineffective!) boycott of the three-day passes is in order after the fiasco yesterday. HK Ticketing dropped the ball by (apparently) not upgrading its servers before the expected onslaught...
