Yes, apparently it involves taking rather average shots and over-processing and tone mapping the shit out of them in Photomatix until they look so supersaturated that it barely resembles a photograph. You intend on taking money from people to teach them this? Good HDR shots barely resemble evidence of post processing...I'm sorry but those shots are just a sad amateur joke.

I would suggest that you establish a serious portfolio before you offer up your services and embarrass yourself.

Honestly the best two shots from your portfolio are your self portrait:

Which although sharp, lacks shadow for deeper contrast in the face.

    And,

i actually thought some of the pics weren't too bad. ok, i wouldn't buy them, but they're far better than a lot of pics that one sees plastered over websites and blogs... but yeah, i guess a pro should have a more... impressive... 'folio if he/she wishes to impress

Let me explain myself. I have a big problem when people use discussion forums to push their own agenda rather than offering advice. Professional services can and should be advertised properly in the classified section. When you self-promote you have to be able to take harsh criticism. As a freelance professional photographer (with an ongoing contract with Getty Images and South China Morning Post, along with constant publications in numerous Hong Kong publications, Time Out Hong Kong, Standard, Hong Kong Tatler....just to name a few) I take issues when the "self proclaimed" pros trying to charge money by offering services they are not qualified to teach.

While it is true that many great photographers achieve great success through experience and practice, it is very very rare for these greats to take an teaching roles. Those who do teach, are typically professionals with formal photography /art education and some kind of a teaching background. Remember teaching and doing are NOT the same thing. However, most importantly is that someone who claims to be a "PRO" should have a portfolio worthy enough to attract clients and stand up to any critique. Further, a process like HDR is primarily used by amateurs on Flickr in an attempt to bring hits to their photo-streams. I would venture to say the 99% of these are over-processed garbage, imho. Very few Pros employ this technique on a regular basis. One of the more successful ones that I know who uses HDR-like technique is Dave Hill. Dave Hill Photography However, I don't think you can compare his shots even remotely to our self-advertising HDR guru.

My point is: Your work speaks volumes and if it's not at the right level, you shouldn't be taking money for it (as it makes our entire craft look bad).
