    Hong Kong SAR Passport Question

I am currently a holder of a full british passport and a permanent HKID card. I was wondering if i should/could get a Hong Kong SAR passport and would it mean having to forfeit my british one - if this is the case obviously i wont get one.

I have looked around the HK immigration department website but its crap

Assuming you are entitled to a HK SAR passport (meaning that you qualify for Chinese citizenship) then officially, yes you would have to renounce your British citizenship in order to take Chinese Citizenship, which is a necessry precursor to getting a HK SAR passport.

In practice, if I understand correctly, you simply have to be prepared to sign a form saying that you have done so, but no attempt is made by Immigration to verify that this is so. Empricially, many people in HK hold HK SAR passports and one of another country (Canada, UK, Australia, USA, etc.) so it generally isn't a problem.

The application form for the HKSAR passport suggests that you should not hold any other passport. Saying that holding one and being Chinese allows you to get a returning visa for multiple entry to China. But I wouldn't bother as the UK passport gets you into more countries visa-free.

When I applied for mine, when they inform you that you are eligible to obtain Chinese nationalization, they requested me to produce a certificate from the Indian Consulate certifying that I have renounced my Indian citizenship before they granted me my Chinese citizenship. I would assume the same would be applied for British citizens.
