Small wedding - need help

Question Small wedding - need help

    Hi everyone,

For a variety of reasons, my partner and I have decided to elope. We are planning a quick trip into HK, and would like to tie the knot while we are there.

From what I can understand we can lodge all our legal requirements either online or from overseas and have the marriage license ready to go when we land.

We'd like to keep this as low key and low cost as possible. It will be just us. No reception, no fuss, no scene.

Is it possible to have a small wedding on a beach? We'll need witnesses - any ideas on how to do this? Would a hotel let us have a wedding on a large balcony or something?

We thought about hiring a junk, but we really don't want a whole day thing and don't even know which beaches to head for...

    Many thanks for your help!

If I'm around I'll be happy to be a witness.

There's a lovely little alcove setting at The Verandah at Repulse Bay which is perfect for one table.

You can get married pretty much anywhere (on land at least - I think there are special rules if you actually want to get married afloat). You need a Civil Celebrant to officiate. If you want it easy then they can do all the paperwork for you (lodging notice with the Marriage Registry etc), or if you want to keep cost to a minimum then you can do that yourself. The very cheapest way would be to get married at the Civil Celebrant's office (they are all solicitors) - obviously getting the Celebrant to come to a beach is going to be more expensive - the further away it is then the longer the time and the more the expense. (To get one to Pui O as suggested by cookie09 would, I expect, add several thousand HK$ to the price, for example.)

I was very happy with the service I received 3 years back from Don Vong of Vongs - you can make the arrangements by email with his staff. Obviously you'll need to negotiate on the price.

Yep - the last time was a few weeks ago ... I reckon about 15 of us turned up in the end so you might want to find some prior if you really want a small wedding

You need two of them, and they need either their HK ID card or passport.
