I've been casually told I'm not in the same class as white people because I'm Indian. I've even been told the same thing by someone who works for the Home Affairs Bureau's Race Relations Unit. They said white people aren't eligible for services for Ethnic Minorities because they're of a higher class. I then pointed out that one of the Indian guys who was receiving government subsidized services owns a building worth about half a billion dollars, while the white people who were 'taking advantage' of the service were teachers.
I've also been told that all gweilo use their left hands when they use chopsticks. I politely pointed out that I use my left hand because I'm left-handed.
There was no malice of any sorts when the statements above were made: it just seems like a lot of locals think white people are better than them and they're ok with that. I've heard a local with a postgrad degree from one of the best universities in the world say something to that effect too.
