If you want to enjoy CNY's fireworks without being stuck in the midst of a crowd, you have to find spots other than Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Wanchai.

It's in Shatin. Take the KCR to Tai Wai, from there take the KCR to Ma On Shan and then get off at the Che Kung Temple Station.

Look at this website http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/...fest_che.jhtml. The representative from HK govt will go on the second day. Most people will go on the third day because they won't visit their relatives on this day, called Chek Hou (it is believed people will argue or get abusive on this day).

But then see also this website for traffic arrangement http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/...fest_che.jhtml

When going to the temple, esp on crowded days, you'll get very uncomfortable because of all the smoke from the incense sticks and candles, large and small. Be careful so that your expensive clothes are not damaged by incense sticks. So better go on days other than the 2nd or 3rd day if you want to enjoy your stay there.

The one on Hk side is Kwan Tai temple. http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/...est_kwan.jhtml

Another one in Kowloon is Wong Tai Sin Temple. http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/...opu_wong.jhtml. I'll recommend this one since there are fortune telling stalls there in case you're insterested. There's also a temporary market next to this temple, but I'm not sure if it's still there at Chinese New Year.

    Enjoy your temple visits.
