    Help with birth certificate

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I was born in Hong Kong in 1957, but returned to the U.K. after just 6 months when my father was posted back home (he was serving in the British Army at the time)

I have lost my birth certificate and now need to obtain a certified true copy. (My birth was registered in Hong Kong but not in the U.K.)

Can anyone tell me how to go about this and how much it is likely to cost in Hong Kong dollars? What forms do I need to fill in and are they available on the internet?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Rob,

I think it can be done via mail. Take a look here.

    Many thanks for this link!

Reading the notes attached to the form, I'm still a little unsure about the postage charges due.

It says 275 HKD for overseas applications, plus whatever airmail charges are due.

Does this mean that if I send a cheque for HK$275 they will post it overland, or will I get a delay until I pay extra?

Is there anyway someone could clarify this for me?

    Again, many thanks.

    Rob.

The immigration department can clarify it for you.

    [email protected]

They usually respond in 24 - 48 hours.

    Shri.

OK, thanks for this, I will mail them and see what happens.

I am also looking at the Hong Kong post office site to see if I can find out the cost.

    Hong Kong Birth Certificate

Hi Rob - just wondered if you did manage to get your birth certificate? I need to do the same (father in British Army in 1966). Was it a simple process? Any advice? And how long did it take?

    many thanks

Lost HK birth certificate and HK ID card

    Hello Rob,

Did you manage to get your birth certificate? I was born in HK and went to the U.S. when I was 17. I lost my HK birth certificate, HK juvenile ID card and any proof that I was born in HK. I'd like to get a copy of my HK birth certificate and eventually a HK ID card. What is the easiest way to get both of these documents? I prefer not to appear in person. Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Alice

All the information on the birth certificate you require can be found here, including how to do it by post or online:

GovHK: Applying for a Search of Birth Records and a Certified Copy of a Birth Entry

However, you will have to collect the birth certificate in person.

ID card and verification of status information here: http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/idcard/

Lost HK birth certificate and HK ID card

Do I really have to collect the birth cert in person or get it by mail? Do you know if my daughter can get a HK ID card?
