Indeed - I can't now find the stuff on the Immigration website which used to give exemptions for helpers terminated because their employers were leaving Hong Kong or could no longer afford a helper.

Presumably this is all just to feed more money into the pockets of the Philippines Consulate employees and the agencies. I do wonder whether the ICAC has investigated this whole FDH scheme - it utterly reeks of corruption.

Have to agree. We brought our helper (or tried to), Filipina, from Singapore where she had worked for us for several years. We have had to treat her as a completely new hire, took a couple of months.

Well yes, but that's a different question - I wouldn't expect a transfer from another country to be much different from a new hire.

I would understand if the process took a few days or maybe two weeks. Just couldn't believe it took a couple of months (literally) which she had to spend elsewhere. Oh, and she worked in HK before for 12 years. Sorry, I know it's a different situation but was commenting on the FDH process here.

Reviving an old thread here. We will have to let our FDH go at the end of Jan (due to Mr SS unexpectedly losing his job last month) but I have a friend willing to take her on straight away. She is only 8 months into her visa. Will they make her leave? It's hardly her fault or ours.

Sorry to hear about your husband's job loss, esp. at this time of year. What will you do next? Will you stay and search or move on? (nosy aren't I?)
