    Ordering DVD on Amazon

While ordering some dvds on Amazon.com, I got this message:

Your order contains at least one Region 1 (Canada and U.S.) encoded DVD or NTSC-format VHS videotape. These products may not play in DVD and VHS players sold in the country where this order is being delivered. Please also note that some Region 1 DVDs contain a Regional Coding Enhancement. Some of our international customers have had problems playing these enhanced discs on their “region-free” DVD players.

Has anyone ordered dvds from Amazon? Would I be able to watch them in HK?

    Thanks!

Almost all DVD players in HK are region-free, if not chance is high it can be made region-free by entering a code on your remote. Google your DVD player type and you'll find out!

Yes, but Amazon are saying that some DVDs will not play even on "region-free" DVD players.

I haven't experienced it myself, although I order my DVDs from the UK version of Amazon so they tend to be UK-PAL encoding.

Never really heard any region related problems here in HK. Should be fine.

RCE protection ( used mostly on US NTSC region1 dvd) are now defeated by newer mods on multi region dvd player ( pls note according to broadway staff when i purchased a dvd player for my gf last year, they could not guarantee that their dvd players are modded or region free)

As far i can remember there are very few pal RCE dvd's thus PDML has yet to experience this, but early dvd players had rce problems, nowadays, not worth impliment as most film studio concertrate on the more profitable bluray

RCE was hollywood's deterent from DVD importers shipping their films outside of the US/Canada market to other countries as most (less likely nowadays) US films come out quick in the states than europe or asia, hence, why region 1 dvd used to RCE system against non US dvd players
