It will soon be a decade since the British returned Hong Kong to China, and the dire predictions that China would undermine and corrupt Hong Kong have turned out to be quite wrong.
is that true?

Yeah I guess those protests with tens of thousands of people in Hong Kong are just for fun?
I do notice more China influence in HK media lately - HK stars are starting to speak Mandarin more and more, and that propoganda piece they place before the news is just fucking sickening.
They speak Mandarin because of certain rules within the show biz and TV channels, they're supposed to speak Mandarin to certain channels and not allowed to speak Cantonese to certain channels. Btw, it's money influence, China and Taiwan.Originally Posted by lowlight:

World Press Freedom score of HK is better than USA, Italy and Spain, worse than the rest of European country. Third in Asia after South Korea and Japan. Singapore 140th.

Regarding protests I suggest a trip in France or Italy just for enjoying some strike or days of protest against government and so on. I can speak for Italy at least, cause I'm Italian.
Don't want to say HK is the paradise on earth, but I find situation not worse than other civilized countries.
