    Whilst Waiting for Working Visa

Guys, I am waiting for my working visa and currently am on a australian passport. Can I just buy a single trip flight from sydney to hong kong or do i have to buy a return, then when I am granted the visa just say go to china and come back into hong kong to initiate the visa?

Officially no - if you are entering HK as a visitor, you're meant to have a return ticket. Unofficially - if you're pretty confident your working visa will be granted and you're a whiteish English-speaker (may not be nice, but it's true), you're very unlikely to have a problem. Macau is generally more popular for visa runs, I think, and if Immigration do ask you where/when you're planning to move on from HK, "I'm planning to go to Macau by ferry" seems like a perfectly reasonable response...

If you are worried, you can buy a full fare economy one way ticket back to Aus and get 100% refund on it as soon as you get past immigration in HK.

You're more likely to encounter a problem before you board your flight in Oz than at immigration here, they may want you to show proof of onward travel before letting you board. I'd check with the airline.
