    hello

Hello, if you are married to a permanent resident you can work in Hong Kong on a dependant visa but once of the major factors that is considered is your combined value and income and that your wife can support you in Hong Kong. The marriage location is not an issue.

Being a resident is different from having permanent residency. If she has a permanent residency, yes, she can sponsor you for a dependant and yes, you can work here under that dependant visa.

    Yes you may

Hi, you don't have to be a "permanent" resident to be able to sponsor a dependant. As long as you are a resident, have a HK I.D. and have a high enough salary to support both you and your dependant then that's fine.

I am not a permanent resident with those stars in my HK I.D. but I sponsored my husband and is now my dependant. He's now working at a large telecommunications company here in HK.

    Totally Agree

I totally agree with you Paul. Dependants of non-residents need to secure HK Immigration's approval before taking on employment.

However, my contention is that, even if you're not a "permanent" HK resident but only a HK resident, you may be able to sponsor a spouse to be a dependant. This is coming from your statement in the earlier thread (below).

Simplifying slightly... look at her HK ID card. If it has three stars to the left of the ID number then she is a permanent resident and can sponsor you as a dependent (subject to be able to prove that she can support you). If the *** is absent then she probably cannot.
