    dependant Visa useful info.

    My situation is as follows:

I am shortly to marry my Indonesian Girlfriend and apply for a dependant visa. I am a Hong Kong resident and have lived here for nearly twenty years. She is currently on a HK domestic helper contract which runs until next year.

To avoid obvious problems with employers (as you know what they can be like); we intend to marry first; wait a week or two; apply to immigration for a dependant visa while she is still employed. Is this a reasonable course of action?
Does immigration require that she terminates the contract first, or at least give notice? ( The reason for this is simply to make as much use of the two week window she receives on termination of her contract)

    Myself as the spouse.
I have worked part time for the same place for over four years (consistent contract), earning $18,000 a month, I also undertake extra work that gives me another $6-7000 a month on top, as I attend university. Have lived in the same house for five years, and have a minimal amount of savings(20 -50,000$) as it goes on education.
Naturally I just want things to go smoothly as we have known each other a few years and want to be together.
Any advice here, do you think my application will go smoothly based on my plan and my personal circumstances?

    Would appreciate your comments please.

    J.

    Hi J.P.,

I seriously don't think you should have any problems, given the length of time you've been in HK, your current income, while it may seem modest is reasonably better than that of most other people in HK.

Be sure to take LOTS of photos of the wedding. Lots of friends and family in attendance also helps. And the more photos/letters/phone records/etc. you have from the last few years documenting your relationship the better. (With xerox'ed copies of everything in duplicate including photos and marriage license.)

Immigration does like to have "documentation" that the marriage is indeed for love and not money.
