Having a Baby in HK, will it have a HK passport?

Hello All, I have looked through quite a few posts but none that have answered this question: If I have a baby in Hong Kong will he/she have a HK passport as well?

A bit of background on myself: I live and work in Shenzhen, and my wife and I are having a baby, we want to have it in HK for many reasons. I am a US citizen, and my wife is a Chinese national, that can enter HK easily. We already have a hospital we are thinking of booking but need to know this question for sure.

Thanks for the advice in advance!

This question has been discussed over and over: There is nothing like a HK citizenship. Only Chinese. The Chinese Citizenship in combination with the right of abode in HK qualifies for a HK passport. If a Child is born in HK and the mother is Chinese, the Child has Chinese citizenship and right of abode in HK.

    not so sure

so I called the immigration dept today about what you said, and my situation.

They said if the mother is Chinese, then can qualify for a HK passport. Nothing about Chinese citizenship and a hk permit...

Anyone who qualifies for a HK passport MUST be a Chinese citizen - HK is part of China!

Ok, So yes forgot to get into all the wonderful political discussions. Minus all this, Will the baby have a HK passport? I KNOW HK IS PART OF CHINA, and so is taiwan, but they still have different passports!

The question already been answered for you both here and by Immigration. Again: if the mother is a (mainland or Macau) Chinese Citizen and the child is born in Hong Kong then the child will be a Chinese Citizen and entitled to a HKSAR passport.

What more can we say? (Except that Taiwan is NOT part of China for these purposes)
