Am I able to get a HKID? 2 HK-born Children

    Hi,

I am American and live in Shenzhen and am married to a Chinese (non-HK) wife. We have 1 child born in Hong Kong (and thus a HK Permanent Resident) and another child on the way who will also be born in HK and thus a HK Permanent Resident.

I am trying to work out how I can myself get a HKID without having to take on employment.

Is there any program that fascilitates the process for a HKID for parents of HK Permanent Residents? Eventually we'd like to send our children to school in Hong Kong but that means we need to legally live here.

    Thanks,
    Marshall

Of course not. Otherwise, the thousands of mainlanders coming to HK to have children would also earn residency, and this would certainly increase their numbers exponentially. You can get one a s a Qualified Migrant or as an Investor. otherwise you are SOL.

Apparently 30.000 mainland mothers give birth in HK every year and all these babies hold PR.

They are taking the long view. When the parents reach age 60 then they can be sponsored for Dependant Visas by their PR children.

Other than that the OP would need a QMAS or CIES Visa to live in Hong Kong.

However, I believe that many children commute to and from school between HK and Shenzhen every day. The PR kids might be able to go to school in HK whilst living in Shenzhen, although I'm not sure of the mechanism for getting a school place in this case.

Yes I have seen them at the border in HK school uniforms in the morning and afternoon. You can also come to HK and be a student for 7 years....

    Thanks!

Thank you all - I didn't think I could but have been looking into the QMAS.
