Is it compulsory to have a Chinese name to qualify for a Home Return Permit?

What if you are non-chinese and gone through the whole process (naturalization/ 3* on HKID/ HKSAR PP) and want to apply for the Home Return Permit, can you apply with your English name?

My understanding, from previous posts here, is that a Chinese name is required. The only official language of China is Chinese so everything (including your name) must be expressed in that language.

It would be great if someone could shed some light on my eligibility or my ease of being approved for an HRP. I applied for one in 2009, but was turned away because I didn't have an HKSAR passport, which I now have. I plan to return to HK for a week to reapply for an HRP before making my way to the mainland. Is a week in HK a good amount of buffer time if I apply for the five business day rush permit? Will I be rejected outright? I think my experiences with CTS has made me a little wary and rather paranoid of the system.

    Thanks.
Hi, if you possess a HKSAR passport then you would be eligable to apply for a HRP if you filled in a Chinese name on the application form. This is a must in order to qualify fo a HRP. Thanks, mwong9413.

Does anyone recommend a particular branch of CTS, on the basis that they give you less grief than the other branches?

I got my HRP a few months ago. I went to a few CTS branches to see how busy they were (Central, Mong Kok, Kowloon Bay & Tuen Mun) I chose and booked an appointment online for Tuen Mun as it was the smallest Branch and least busiest. I can't read, write or speak Chinese so I had to bring a friend along to fill in the 2 forms for me (HRP Application and Declaration for foreign born) and talk to the CTS Rep.
I brought along my HKID ***AON (Chinese transliterated name added before I applied for HKSAR Passport) Expired Foreign Passport used to apply for HKID (The CTS Rep photocopied the first time I entered HK and main page), Most recent Foreign Passport (main page photocopied), HKSAR Passport (main page photocopied). I had to write down my Dad's HKID number and contact details and sign my name in Chinese. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. My friend picked up the card 14 days later after being contacted by phone using my HKSAR Passport and Application receipt.

what if I have a *** HKID and a HK passport that says I am Chinese. Both parents and myself were born in china but my parents and I now also hold foreign passports ?. No one was born in HK ?. is the HRP still Possible ?. HKID designation is AXN. Does anyone have the same situation or can clarify ?.

My Dad has ***AXN on his HKID as well. He has a HKSAR Passport and HRP. Of course it's possible. Did you not read my post above? As long as you have a HKSAR Passport with your Chinese Name on it you can get a HRP.

Thanks ! martoshen, I did indeed read it but it was talking about your AON and not my AXN
so I was a bit confused. I don't read or write Chinese and am not sure what to write
on that blank piece of paper. Also mine is a renewal, but the last time someone did it for me
so I don't know how it was done and am no longer in touch with them. Perhaps it's like you say,
just declare that you had a name change and that's it. It is so difficult to clarify issues with HRP since
I there is no resource for it in any government webpages or otherwise. I think yours is the best answer I've seen period.

I think you just need to man up. CTS staff can help you write down what needs to be said in Chinese
