    Dependent children have to be less than 18 (or less than 21 in full time education) I think.

    Thanks guys for your support. Parents actually already live in HKG, so can't be dependent ;-P

    goleoboy, just a heads up: if for whatever reason your partner is looking at getting a training visa (some companies will let you do that instead of a work visa), once the visa is up, your partner will need to EXIT HK for a year before he can reapply for a work visa. two colleagues were told by their previous companies that they could do a seamless transition from training visa to work visa, but they wound up having to be sent to our Singapore office because their work visa apps got rejected for the above reason.

    Wow - that's a great tip! i think having him marry a girl is prob the best bet. maybe use the diamond ring for that. :-))))
