Length of stay in HK with CDN passport

Hi, I was wondering how long can I stay in HK with a CDN passport? Some people say 3 months, some say 6 months. Which is true? Can I apply for a HKID if I am a tourist in HK as well? I hear that if you are in HK for longer then 180 days then you are eligible to apply for a HKID? That is true?

You get three months, only British get 6 months at this time.

HKID cards are only for residents of the HKSAR. Not sure which province you are from, but having a HKID is like the BCID card for those that may move to British Columbia for example.

You need to have a proper visa to stay more than 180 days. What the longer than 180days translates to me as basically 6 months (longest possible tourist visa) so that means you have another visa type such as study, work etc and therefore get an ID card.
