i got my visa... but can i leave?

    hi guys,

pretty excited my work visa just came in... so i'm going to head over to macau this weekend and come back. now the visa is a sticker and it says on it with some wierd wording that its only good for 1 visit...

i was wondering if otheres are the same? and once i re-enter hong kong, can i leave say for a weekend and go to singapore? the wording seems to imply no but that wouldbe pretty silly having to get a new visa even if i go on holiday?

the visa is valid for 1 year.

You can leave and come in as you wish during that one year. Most of the time swipe your ID card in and out.

The one entry on the visa means you can use that visa itself to enter once on employment. You can't enter now for example and then next month and get another year. You need another visa for each year. In short it's legal English.

    Yes others are the same.

I was a bit confused on the wording too when we got ours. But as said above, it means you can enter once to "validate" that 1 year visa.

After that you are free to come and go within the time period - and also as mentioned above - once you get your Hong Kong ID, you can use that at immigration too to re-enter HK.

After the visa is stamped once, then you get your HKID card, you don't even need to show your passport/visa - you just use the automatic gates with the HKID card. Easy!

    1) usually how long it takes to get your the ID done from your experiences

    2) which mean I wont need my foreign passport when I go to shenzhen and back? just use my ID? that'll be amazing! save the queues!

    tks

    1) You get a temporaray ID as soon as you go to ImmD to apply, but that's a piece of paper that means you have to go through the "manual" residents' channel. Two weeks later you can collect your real ID card.

    2) No - you won't need your passport to leave or enter HK, but you will need it to enter or leave China.
