QMAS application - existing employment reference & spouse application

hi guys, am currently pulling together our QMAS application and have a slight issue...

I'm skeptical of asking my existing employers (in Australia) to provide a letter detailing start date, title, responsibilities etc - i wanted to wait until I had the visa before advising I was leaving - has anyone else had this problem / how did people resolve it??

also, my wife is coming with me and has completed the 997 form to go with the 981, will her visa be processed at the same time as mine?

    cheers guys!

I can understand your dilemma. I applied last year, luckily the organisation was big enough that I could get a letter from HR without explaining why and without my immediate bosses knowing. They wouldn't include responsibilities though due to company policy (which is standard in large companies these days).

For now you could try submitting your employment contract, plus any evidence of your duties and responsibilities - for example if you have a formal job description, or your annual appraisal. I used the appraisal which listed out my duties in full. I would also suggest explaining why you have not submitted the letter as required and what evidence you have submitted in lieu. You might also mention that you will be able to request the letter from your current employers once you have approval in principle (if you would indeed be prepared to do that).

Something else I would suggest that is not listed in the requirements is to submit details of "business nature and scope" of your current and previous employers. I was asked for this and others on this forum have also mentioned being asked. If everything else is in order, this might avoid your application being held up. I just quoted the mission statement and also listed the company website.

For your wife, yes her visa will be processed at the same time as yours and issued at the same time as yours if you are successful.

    Good luck with the application.

I had the same problem too. I told my employer that I was going to apply for Australian permanent residency and hence they were quite happy to provide me with a letter. Director was happy to put his signature down on the letter without asking too much question.

Just curious... arch1024.. are you working as an architect or architecture related job?

nope, chartered accountant. unfortunately already have the PR in Australia so can't use that one as an excuse!!

am hopeful the appraisals, job spec, employment contracts etc with a covering letter will be enough, fingers crossed!
