I wouldn't even think about an Employment visa. Best would be to politely inform ImmD when you have a job offer to start on 1 Sept (which will be a month after application) and see if they can push it through for you. You should be able to see the officer handling your case if you visit Immigration Tower personally.

weren't you given a time to return to the Immigration Office regarding your visa? I got my initial dependent visa in two weeks last year, and my renewal last month also took only two weeks from submission to collection. Both times I was given a form saying when I should return to the office to pick the visa up.

Hi, I'm a bit confused.... I was under the impression that you had to have the dependents visa granted before entering HK? I've read somewhere that once you've entered the country then you can't change your visa status? From what you're saying you can enter HK on a different type of visa and then apply for the dependents visa? Please can you clarify this for me?

No, I wasn't told of the date of visa collection when I submitted the application. They sent me a card with a reference no. on it 2 weeks after the submmision, and thats all I got, no dates stated when my visa would get approval, no. I did send an email enquiring my visa application status few days ago but have yet to receive their replies.
Malanna, to clear your doubts, I'm here on 90days visitor visa and I think most of the people do that, come here on visitor visa then look for a job. Like my case, once I get my dependent visa granted i would have to leave the country and re-enter to validate my Dependent visa.

You can certainly apply for a change of status from visitor to dependent while you are in HK and it is quite common I think, but expect to be asked why you did not apply for your dependent visa before entering HK.

They prefer you to apply from overseas. If you haven't you are required to provide a signed statment, along with your application, as to why you didn't do this. I certainly submitted one with my initial application.

Also, you don't need to leave the country to validate a dependent visa.

You do if you applied for it from outside HK, but happen to be in HK on a tourist visa when it is granted. If you apply within HK for change of status from tourist to dependant then you are correct.

I went to the Immi Tower to enquire about my visa application status today. I told them it was of URGENT case, very very URGENT, as suggested by a member on this forum An hour later I got a call from the Immi saying my case has been approved and would send a letter of visa collection to me by this week. Its really a good news for me
As I applied within HK the officer said I had to leave & re-enter HK to validate the visa.

congratulations. But to re-enter? Seems as though I was completely wrong regardless of PDLM's comment above - strange though, as I too changed from tourist to dependent visa and never had to go through that. Perhaps it is a new rule (they do change them every now and again).

Thanks. Yes I thinks its a new rule. Anyway I will clarify with the officer again when I collect my visa next week.
