Permanent Identity Card - Documents Required

    Hi
Been working here for 6 years and 11 months.
Almost ready to goto Immigration to apply for my Permanent Identity Card.
I've been good and always payed my taxes and kept most records.
    I was born in Australia.
Been looking on the immigartion website and a little unsure about whats exactly required, i.e. do I have to give them all my:
    Bank Statements
    Tax Statements
    Public Utility Bills
    Lease Agreements
    Employment Contracts

Birth Certificate? ( I dont have this in HKG)

Also do immigration need to have all originals of the above or just 'view' them... as I have loads of paperwork and would be a nightmare to photocopy.

    Very many Thanks in Advance
    Andy

if i remember, i provided my leases (they then wanted them photocopied), i provided some bank statements, but i don't think that i provided them all... that woudl be an awful lot of paper and it isn't really their business...

so long as you can prove you've been here (visa copies etc) and you've done it legally, it's pretty straight forward.

If I remember correctly, I gave them my most recent bank statement, my most recent tax receipt (not demand - they need to know you've paid), a recent utility bill, all the accommodation leases since I've been here, and a "to whom it may concern" letter from my current employer stating my role, how long I'd been employed, salary and so on. And a copy birth certificate if that's on the list.

Since the onus is on you to prove that you have taken HK as your permanent place of residence then they might ask WHY your birth certificate is somewhere else? Do you, perchance, regard somewhere else as your long term home?

    Thanks for the replies
Its just that I didnt think the Birth Certificate would be required, but should be obtainable in a week or so.

While I'm on the topic of Permanent ID cards, do others that have them have to prove they have a HKG MPF as I already have my own personal one offshore fund with montly contributions and one static superannuation fund in Australia.
I had some info before that once one gains a HKG PIC then he/she must have a HK MPF, my question is about the timing....

Yes - HK PRs cannot claim the exemption from MPF. But you do not have to prove that you have one in order to gain PR. Like you, I only started contributing in the weeks after PR was granted.

I just goy my PR 6 weeks ago. As I was on dependant visa. You need to Immigration tower on 27 or 28th Floor and drop the forms and relevant papers photocopies and they will send u letter if they need anymore papers if not then within 2-6 weeks u will get a confirmation that u have been approved. Then they will call u on an appointed date and time and u need to bring originals of all documents u submitted as they see it all.

Regarding the documents. U dont need a bith certificate. Just your passport copy is fine. Your tax returns for the past 3 years. We didnt take bank statements, U need your utility bill showing proff of address, u can take your lease agreement if it is in your name. I didnt need emplyment contract. But take that. That will be enough and if it is not they will send u a letter asking u for any further documents they need. Very cool and no hassle at all. Dont lie about anything because they have all your papers from previous applaications and if u have for any reason lived out of HK for more than 6 months during tha last 7 years please give reasons, otherwise nothing to worry

Property here and/or the absence of it anywhere else is good. So too are bank accounts here (and not overseas), club membership (if it involves a large joining fee), learning Cantonese (if you can demonstrate it to them), making a will under HK law, and stuff like that.

But I don't think that question is a show-stopper. Showing that you have met all your tax obligations is more important.

Thanks a lot, I didn't think of Cantonese. It's something worth to mention.

Can you ask on how long is the application process? I have dropped mine 2nd week of April and still waiting for the results.. Some of my friends who applied a couple of weeks earlier got the results in 6 weeks.
