Question Help Needed!! Questions on Moving to Hong Kong and sorting out Visas!

    Hi everyone,
I'm a British Citizen, a mature student who is about to do a Placement year in Fashion/Clothing Design. My Uni has been really bad at sorting out placements and so even though I (and a lot of other students in my year) should've started it by now, I'm having to source my own! I want to do it in Hong Kong so have decided to use my TEFL qualification (I have a previous degree too) and come over to Hong Kong to teach whilst I find a fashion placement and just need advice on visas - do I need a working visa before I enter and then do I have to change it if and when I find a placement as I'll be doing a different job? Is it quite easy to find teaching work and internships in fashion and is it hard to find affordable accommodation when I get there - I'm gonna be in a hostel when I arrive.
Thanks in advance for any help I might get!!

You will need a visa for each job you take up, however if you come to Hong Kong and look for work it shouldn't be a problem before getting a visa. Just keep in mind working without a valid visa is illegal.

Most of the time teaching work is quite easy for find especially for someone with any degree and TEFL. Keep in mind many companies are too lazy to do visas so make sure to be ready to push for one and also ready to spend sometime without income or working illegally. (if you pick the latter please be ready for what could come about due to it though, such as being kicked out of Hong Kong and not welcomed back for a long time)

What price range are you looking for for homes? What size do you want? I can help give you some ideas.

Thanks for the info! Yeah - I can imagine the consequences for working illegally and am not about to risk the opportunity of working/living in Hong Kong for it! Just trying to arm myself with all the info before I arrive to make it easier! I'm hoping to arrive in mid Sept and am just looking for a simple 1 bed or studio flat/apartment. I would need it furnished though - well, with a bed, storage and internet point. Not really got too much ideas of the area I'd like as it's hard to know too much without being there but I'm not too fussy!
    Thanks

Well I think you may want to add more things on the list or maybe spend a month in a service apartment while you shop around. I have heard about 150sq. feet places in $7000 range and I just seen a 1000sq foot + place in decent condition. (first floor-rooftop village house) for HKD$4000.

Various prices and locations. Just depends what your requirments are.

    Expat area
    City centre
    nightlife

    etc
