Tell Hubby that new furniture in HK is not only cheap but can be made to order. Dont automatically go to Ikea, its actually expensive, we had a custom made (to our exact specifications) queen size bed on hydrolics to allow storage space underneath for half the Ikea prices. Little chap drew the pictures made it and delivered within 3 weeks ! Quality excellent ! I can give you some contacts if you went this route and I am sure lots of other people could as well. Also there is a huge selection of furniture at Ap Lei Chau, both ready made and custom, some expensive, some great value but in my opinion more choice in style than Ikea.

Thanks Jimmy332. I can't get an idea of how much things will be to ship so I just want to buy all new and get what we really need. I guess it'll be weird at the beginning waiting for it to arrive. Sleep on the floor?

Here's a quick question. We will come and first stay in a Serviced Apartment. Once we find a place to rent...is it a month away (like here in Canada) or in just days? I hear alot of people on this forum say they moved in very fast. Meaning that the flat was empty and available? That doesn't happen here very much. We see it when it is occupied by the current tenant and then we are taking it for the upcoming month or the next month.

you've gotta admit being in limbo between two countries is pretty cool. i mean, it's nothing you'd ever plan to do.

We have moved 3 times, from serviced apt to just furnished apt to unfurnished apt which we are furnishing ourselves. Our exerience is that each time the place we were moving to was vacant and we picked the move in date to co-incide with the end of our last leasing contract with enough time for them to clean the new place !! Just our experience but 'vacant' possession seems the 'norm'. Have a great move !!
