What type of visa can a British nanny apply?

Err, not quite right. A proper nanny, with training and work experience, has no trouble getting a visa in HK. Wages for a trained nanny are relatively high (about US$2500-3000/ month base) and more than enough to support a work visa. The issue the OP is having is that she wants to hire an au pair (typically younger, generally less experience and training and much lower salary) as opposed to a nanny.

Also, giving her non-nanny duties likely reduces her ability to get a work visa as you will then need to justify why you need her (a trained nanny) doing something other than nannying.

It's good to hear that trained nannies are easily employable through the GEP, but as her nanny is not trained, I was suggesting ways a person could possibly hire her through other means (ie. not primarily as a nanny), assuming there was enough to work with on her resume.

Let's not forget that the OP has stated this is someone in her gap year so I highly doubt that there is very much to work with on the CV to warrant a GEP application, whether for the position of nanny (for which she seems not to be trained/qualified) or anything else.
