    Question Work Permit Update

This is my situation: I hold a Singapore passport and have worked in HK since Feb 2005. My current contract expires on 30 Jun 2008 (I have my employment contract to prove to immigration), but my work visa is valid till 16 Feb 2008 because the last time I renew it was for 2 years. My employer has a high chance of renewing my contract, but I will not know the exact outcome until nearer mid 2008. Apparently I need to extend my work visa to Jun 2008. Do I just go make an appointment and renew it? When is the earliest I can do this?

Yes, the process is quite easy. Just go to the immigration department (Wan Chai main branch) 4-6 weeks before your visa expires and hand in the extension application form (can be downloaded here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/id91.htm), and show them your current contract and HKID. I think you also have to hand in copies of contract and HKID.

You can not show up several months in advance to extend your visa though.

4 weeks before the expiry date is a normal time frame.
