SMTT, bring your old passport with you when you apply for a visa to show that you've had the visas before. You should be able to get another 6-month visa based on your previous visa record (I say "should"; echoing other posts here, there are no hard-and-fast rules, but it worked for me).

It takes ages and costs and there are some hoops to jump, but it is the closest I can think of to a "pass that allows free travel" - IF you qualify.
Example of 'hoops' if you are australian:

a CEO, board member, regional/country head or owner/director of a
    business entity
ï‚· an employee nominated by one of the above people in their business
    entity (except a board member)
ï‚· be employed by a registered business entity, or Australian-based peak business
body, engaged in international trade or investment between APEC member
    economies which:
 has been certified by an ‘approved body’ or
ï‚· is identified in the current Forbes Global 2000 business list or ï‚· has received an Export Market Development Grant from Austrade during
    the previous five years or
ï‚· has been a national finalist in the Australian Export Awards (supported
by Austrade and ACCI) during the previous five years.

I'm a PR here and I got turned down by China.

It's OK though, the feeling is largely mutual.

You got turned down because you're a vegetarian.

Yeap, I was going to say you didn't get your visa because you are an activist by day and a caped Commie-killer by night, but that is just too cool.

If that is where you are still resident then yes. But if, in the meantime, you have become a HK resident then you could get a visa here.

So If I live in Jong kong but just have a dependents visa it's a trip to the UK for a multifarious visa. Seems a bit far
