Single-trip or round-trip ticket to enter in Hong Kong?

My problem is, i want to buy a ticket to come to HK in December, as i'm planning to get married there. But, i'm not sure whether i should buy a single-trip or a round- trip airplane ticket. From what i heard, the immigration control at the airport could block someone's entry in HK with a single-way ticket, but i don't know much about this subject. So, do any of you guys here know anything about this??
    Thanks in advance

If you have a PR or work permit for HK a one way ticket could most likely be purchased. If you don't have this then the likelihood of buying even from the travel agent or airline is slim.

If a one way ticket is so much cheaper than a budget return ticket (which I doubt) then an onward ticket by Tiger or Airasia to Clark could be a cheap alternative instead.

As a side note: If you are Portuguese, you have the right to become a Macau resident if you find work there (no other conditions). If you arrive in HK you would not have any problem to enter (Still with the option to take the ferry to Macau instead of entering HK), the trickier part is to convince the check in staff at departure.

Eh? I buy one way tickets with the budget airlines online all the time. Never was asked for a proof of residence.

Depends on where he is coming from.

I was refused a one way purchase of a ticket from Australia to HK. Though it wasn't a budget airline as you suggested.

Anyway you can just buy a return ticket for a few weeks later and then when land change the ticket. You can generally do that up to one year.

Hey guys, thank you so much. I think i might go with the round-trip ticket option, besides it's almost the same price as a single trip ticket. But it's kinda tricky because i've heard so many different opinions over the last days, some friends of mine were blocked at the airport and had to buy another ticket in order to enter in HK, while others had no problems getting in...

It is most likely to depend on how long a passport holder can stay in Hong Kong, e.g. UK Passport is 6 months so likely to allow one-way ticket.

Plus with the difference being minimal it is safer to buy a return ticket.

I have a seven month retuen ticket and had to do some pretty quick talking when it came to check in.
In the end it was my China multi-trip Visa that saved me as I said I would leave HK for china and then return thus extending my stay.

had me worried though as it would have been 100GBP to change return date.
