    Dependents visa length

    Hi kids,

I picked my dependents visa today and applied for my ID card. My question is how long was your first dependents visa for? Mine is for a year. I don't mind obviously I assume I just get it extended/updated next year.

Is a year the norm for the first one? Would the next one be for two years?

Yes, the first one is normally for a year. After that if your sponsor is also on a visa then it will probably be linked to the expiry of their visa. If your sponsor is a HK PR then in my experience it's 1 year first time then an extension for 3 years.

Dependent visas normally follows 1-3-3 years pattern for dependents of PR..For others it may be matching the work/study/etc.visa of their sponsor.

Thanks for the swift replies. It makes sense with the 7 year bit. I must say again the process for me was very easy with nice polite staff. Having got my wife UK passport back home that was bl@@dy hard work and extremely expensive. The whole process from un married couples visa to passport cost about 2.5K GBP
