Yeah actually the u.s. is getting extremely strict with greencard holders now. you need to actually reside for a longer period of time within the U.S. and can't just go into the states once a year... or else they'll take away your gcard. even if you go back every 6 months they'll question why you were gone for so long.

one way to do it, is if you still reside in the US you can apply for a re-entry permit, which allows you to stay outside the u.s. for up to 2 years without question. but you can only apply for it while you are physically in the states. good luck!
