    Dependent Visa Application

Greetings everyone, I'm planning to marry my boyfriend of 4 years soon in HK and was wondering whether or not it would seem shady if we went to the immigration tower after signing the wedding form to apply for a dependent visa? Also, does anyone have any experience on what other documentations are needed other than the ones stated on form 997? He's a Chinese American and I'm worried that applying for the visa right after getting married may set off an alarm in the officer's mind that my soon to be husband might be an immigrant from China trying to pay for HK citizenship =[. Thank you in advance for any help!

Ah I see, how many pictures did you send in? We're both not really into taking a lot of pics so we only havemaybe 10 or so =×.

Basically they want confirmation that your marriage is not a sham, so proof like photos together is helpful, along with bills from the same address (if you are living together). Also your other half needs to show he has enough money to support you (normally a decent income, above something like 20k a month).

The photos we sent were sent from over the years we were together, some just on our own, some with friends and some with family. Put them on a few A4 sheets and printed them out (something like 2-4 photos per A4). I think we sent 8 odd photos.

Oh, just to add, we prepared the application before we got married and just dated it and sent it pretty much just after week got married (well a few weeks afterwards).

Ah I see, the thing I'm worried about is these pictures dont include anyone but us in the pictures but I hope it helps that we took them in America. By the way, how long did it take for you to receive the visa??

It's the other way around if you're sponsoring his dependent visa - you have to show you can support him.

You have 4 years' worth of together things. I think some people have shown letters, emails, etc. Whatever shows a bona fide relationship.

BTW, it will take him 7 years to get Hong Kong residency so it would be a long "payment scheme".

Ah yep, read the OP, its the dude (like me) who is applying for the dependency.

BTW took our application about 6 weeks. Should normally take 4 weeks, but ours took a bit longer because it went from different sections within immigration (original application was filed with new visa / dependants section, but as I already had a working visa, it got shifted to extension of visa section).

In regards to supporting him, I'm opening up a store next month but have the lease already signed and we have around 400, 000 HKD in the bank, do you think this will be enough? Thanks!

Its not about "we" but about you, as you will be the one supporting him. However, I think that should be fine. However, I'm not the immigration officer determining your case.
