what is based on your own merit or you were married to a Chinese HKPR?
    - Based on my 7 years of living in HK, working, and contributing taxes here, I have made this my home

Mind sharing your (soon to be) previous citizenship ?
    - IND

I believe we have 12 months to renounce from the letter, is it correct?

Yes 1 year, the passport renunciation process with IND is not simple. It involves several months of waiting and a lot of paperwork. I'm not sure about the process in other countries.

YMMV here. Mrs Lam's naturalisation was approved mid-November, she was travelling over Xmas, so she started the renunciation (of Indian nationality) in the first week of January. Her HKSAR passport was in hand before the end of that month. About 2 weeks for the renunciation, and another week for the new HKID and passport.

What happens if you try to renounce but they don't allow it.. or it's a process over say 18m.

You can ask for 12 months more to complete the renunciation. But if not completed in 24 months then your approval lapses.

Hi All - If someone had submitted documents online, please can you tell me if you waited for immigration's response to book an appointment or if you still had to go submit documents in person?

    Thanks in advance

New applications are walk-in only, AFAIK. I applied via mail, they had returned my application and asked to walk in.

Another question - Is there a walk-in quota for the day? I am planning to go at 2pm but dont want to be turned away in case the walk-in quota is full by then. Thanks in advance, again.

I'm curious what possible reason there might be for your renunciation taking that long? Again, Mrs Lam applied to renounce Indian nationality early January 2023. It took 2 weeks. She had her *** HKID and HKSAR passport about 7-10 days after.

It does say on their website that you can submit an application on line.

They told me at the desk in person with all the documents (first visit to get the list for your case). They will do the quick interview when you submit your application. Probably easier this way
